My budgie recently died and has left my little girl one all by itself! But she is about 4 years and I want her to have some company -but pet shops only sell young ones - is it wise to get a younger one? But my dad says the chain will just go on and on, so when my current one dies, the other will be left alone and we'll just have to keep getting budgies! But my poor Becky is lonely!

It sounds like the first decision is - if you want to continue with budgies as a Pets?

If you think you might not - you could keep this one and have yourself and other family members pay more attention to it - even if its just talking to it as they pass the cage and it might become more bonded to you all and be perfectly happy. - Even if you found one closer to the age of yours or a baby-with unforseen reasons - either one could die before its time and still be in the same situation.

If you would like to continue - a baby hand fed one is a great addition - because with the advised separation from an another bird of around a month - ( it may be tempting to join them sooner but it is defintly advisable for health reason (not to spread any sickness to the other one) and having the new one become your companion so that when you join the two together there is more chance of it continueing to play with you after) you could have the younger one bond to you while also nurturing the other one during this same time and join it with the other one when the period is over. The ones from the Reg. Caged birds have become used to the flock and would be harder to social with humans. Although sometimes they get in ones to replenish the ones sold and they can be as young as 2-3 months and can be more open to training.

If you do not have the desire or time to socialize with them but decide to get another one for company for the other one - check Animal rescue and/Bird Rescue Centers and they probaly would have an older one for a friend for yours.

Good Luck to you in whatever you decide!

P.s. I had lost one of mine and Its companion was very sad Too. All I could do is be with it as much as I could and it did seem to respond to that. It also helped me with missing the other one. We did go to chose more because I really love them as pets.

I'm not so sure about that. I had a parakeet and we thought he was getting lonely. So we got another bird and the first on started being teritorial. After they flew away, I got 2 more birds. Then I got 2 more birds for a birthday present. The 2 other birds didn't mind. I think the first one was being teritorial because he was lonely. It was kinda one on one. So he thought he could "bully". And that sprakler dude said that what the heck is a budgie.....it's kinda dumb because anybody know wut a budgie is

I also have a bird that is about 4 years old. Last year, my grandparents bought me another bird for my birthday. It worked out great. Sometimes they fight because they will get jealous about who is getting more attention. They get the same attention, of course. It sounds like it, but just make sure that Becky is friendly enough to people before buying another bird. I know people who was in your situation and they bought another bird when the first bird wasn't friendly at all to begin with. Good Luck and hope everything works out for you!

Getting her a new companion is a good idea. A young one should be fine, but if you want to get an older one you might try the animal shelter. They get birds as well as dogs and cats. Or you could ask around and see whether anybody has one they want to give away. Also, you might call a breeder; they might have an older one they would be willing to sell.

Pedi perches are undesirable on your birds feet, they are going to reason bumble foot. 50x 50 isn't super adequate for one million budgie no longer to indicate 2. you prefer minimum 60x 40 5, wider fairly than bigger, for a pair of budgies.

That's fine provided the older one does not become aggressive. Buy another, but also buy another cage just in case they don't get on. That way, if they fight you can separate them into different cages and still put them side by side so they have at least the company of their own species.

well, i am not sure how to answer this cause my parents r considering getting me a puppy, but your dad is right, the chain would go on,and on. ask some people around your area or ask a vet or any of those people. you can also ask a pet shop, they ought to know what best is for your buggie!!!
