I have tried for yeasr to argument logically with him, and at times he has almost crossed the line and accept God, I think that he is actually angry at God because all the bad things he has gone trhough and he intellectualizes. Can you please recommend me a good book to give him as gift, a book that he can read and is not too "preachy" if you know whta I mean. Thanks.

I must tell you that I have studies in philosophy, and I know all the pro and against arguments, and I do accept my brother and love hims as such. I don't want to force nothing, but he suffers a lot. He has read Nietzche just as i have, and darwin and all. You see...he is kind of an agnosthic actually.

I have tried arguing with atheists til I am blue in the face, and it always does absolutely no good. It's fun sometimes, but it will not help them come to Christ. Especially if they believe that they are intellectually superior to you, which most do.
Jesus said something about not "casting your pearls before swine," that is not to say that your brother is a pig, only that you could do more harm than good by arguing with him. You should pray for him and ask for the Holy Spirit to lead him to the knowledge of the Truth. "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much."
I am not surprised he won't read the Bible, the Bible assumes belief in God. The only time it acknowledges atheists is the say "The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God", in Psalms. That said, if you think he will actually read and look at the arguments for God, I can recommend this book: "God Doesn't Believe in Atheists," by Ray Comfort. It's very entertaining and funny, as well as logical. You can buy it at http://wayofthemaster.com/
Also he could check out this website: http://drdino.com/articles.php
There is a wealth of info here geared mostly toward the creation/evolution debate.
(PS I am not in any way affiliated with either of these organizations, so I'm not just trying to sell you something. Just hoping I can help.)
God bless!

There are a lot of books he could read, but would he?
I have some friends and family who do not believe, some quite radically and some just don't care. Strangely, they are the ones who are always asking questions about my faith. But I don't think any book would change their mind.
What I do is stress the love and grace of the Lord without judging. When someone asks about "why God lets bad things happen" I reply that he never promised us bad things would not happen, only that he will see us through those times if we turn to him. And, I tell them that, even if they do not believe in God, God believes in them.
It may be your brother is just not yet ready to know God. Instead of trying to convince him or get him a book, pray for him. Just ask God to watch over him, even though he is not a believer and to speak to him when God feels the time is right.

In each he interviews both aeithest, scienteist, and christians and lets the truth speak for its self.
Hes currently a teaching pastor at saddleback church (Rick Warrens Church, author of a purpose driven life)
There are a host of scientist that were aeithest working in the top of there feilds that have turned to Christ and have wrote books on why.

Ask one of Jehovah's Witnesses for a Creator book. This explains things from a scientific viewpoint considering that the person reading it has no faith in God and probably doesn't even believe God exists when he begins reading. It explains all the bad things that people have gone through as well. The book is free of charge and any Jehovah's Witness can get it for you. We also have a book on Evolution vs. Creation if you would prefer that one.

I can recommend several books, but it depends on what his primary interest is in. History? Science? Philosophy? Email me (through my avatar) if you like and I can come up with a list for you. Also tell me what level of understanding he has in that respective field, so I don't suggest something too technical (or not technical enough).
[edit] Here is a list of well known Christian philosophers. I suggest you check out their bios and books at Amazon to see what is most fitting.
For philosophy, I suggest he read Richard Swinburne, Alvin Plantinga, Nicholas Wolterstorff, Francis Schaeffer, Eleanor Stump, William Alston, and Paul K. Moser, C. Stephen Evans, and Merold Westphal (who has published work on Nietzsche).

The Bible, The case for Christ, The Left Behind Series of books. Just remember that you can "witness" to him but, when you get too pushy you are not helping him. It is up to God to "try" his heart and lead him to Jesus. Just be patient it sounds as though God has started a work in him and He will complete it. Let your life speak loudly for Christ, your behavior, showing love for your neighbor speak for you and for the power of Jesus in your life and sometimes that is better than any "sermon" we can try to give an unbeliever. Pray for your brother the most powerful thing you can do. Just watch the power of God at work.

What you must do is let you brother following his own beliefs, God never intended no one who doesn't believe in him being force into his church. Instead give your bother the shoulder to cry on and the ears to listen to his problems instead of constantly preaching on him, time and only time will lead him to his path in life, your constant preaching might separate you guys and if he's into deep issues he's vulnerable to become addicted to alcohol or something worst. Don't force the word of God into his beliefs when all he wants is probably your own word, his brother's word.

You can't "convince" him he should believe. Either he does or he doesn't. He sound intellectual - intellectuals are too rational to just believe in myths without any substance.
Leave him alone, or at least spend an equal amount of time reading books on why God doesn't exist. But you aren't willing to do that, are you?
