Various flowers which are scented with beautiful fragrance have essential oils in them. These are either secondary metabolites or they are present as an attracting substance in insect pollinating flowers. There are oil glands present inside the floral whorls strategically located near the stamens(male parts containing pollen) or near the ovary to facilitate pollination. The insects are directed by the aroma.

To be successful, a plant must procreate. Some do so with aromas that lure insects with the promise of necter. As the insect enters the flower, pollen is taken on by the insect, and the pollen then fertilized the next flower that insect visits. Some flowering plants use the aroma to attract hummingbirds, or moths, or even bats. If a plant is using an insect as a pollenator, it must use something to attract that insect. Scent is usual, but color is as well. Bees see ultraviolet, so we see the flower as yellow, the bee sees it as red. Some plants use no animal vector....dandilions use only the wind, as do many trees such as maple, to scatter their seeds. Whatever a plant uses, it has to be successful enough to produce a next generation... The process is evolution.... what worked, continued. What did not work, stopped, and that plant produced no next generation.

Flowers are beautiful with fragrance and color for one reason and one reason only - to attract bees and other insects to promote their chance of cross polination so that species can thrive and survive. The brighter the color and more fragrant the flower (created by evolutionary competitive forces) - the better the chances of attracting those bees.

its a chemical that is released into the air to attract bugs mostly.. I think its natures way of keeping the flower procreating.. You know, bees, polinating etc.. And I guess we are pre wired as humans to like that smell.. kind of off subject, but Ive heard that skunk oder is actually super hyper concentrated perfume.. If it was toned down it would smell sweet also.. weird huh?

They are only if you can smell them. Beauty is only felt and seen as a reflection of your inner beauty.
