Excess protein tunrs into glucose, through a process called gluconeogenesis. Should the body not be able to use this new glucose, it then turns into fat. Should glucose and/or protein become low and energy necessary, fat can be converted into ketones for temporary use and the waste product uric acid, but never back into glucose.

Excess food of all kinds is ultimately turned into storage as glycogen, and, when that is full up, into triglycerides or fat. Excess protein is digested to amino acids which are then deaminiated and turned into acetate units which the liver makes into fats or cholesterol.
