If not, do you get to choose your seat on JetBlue right after making your reservation?

P.S. what side of the plane has the best view from JFK to IAD?

in case you're booking on an airline that has assigned seating, you are able to click somewhat icon close to the flight time, on the timetable which you opt for your flight, and it could have an icon that possibly sounds like a seat. click on it, and it will say occupied or something alongside those lines.
