It's about the male and the female line, although the male line as given by Matthew is supposed to be irrelevant, if you really believe in the virgin birth, isn't it?
I always thought that was slightly weird.

The geneology in Matthew is through Joseph and the geneology in Luke is through Mary.

Evangelists lie??? Who would have thought? Then again, you may be being a bit harsh. Considering the ignorance of most evangelicals regarding their own bible, it's reasonable to assume that those who are explaining it to them don't have don't have a clue either.

That also suggests that all books of the Bible are not words of God, but are the biographies and histories of Prophets written by men, though with a purpose.
