I bought a small jar of honey the other day and put it in the cupboard without breaking the seal and opening it. Today when I was getting something else out of the cupboard I noticed that a small amount of honey had oozed down the side of the jar and made a tiny puddle on the cupboard shelf! What could have caused this, and should I take it back? Thx.

Any chance someone else opened it? It does sound weird that the honey oozed out, however, honey does not spoil. Unless the jar was tampered with, there would be nothing wrong with the honey.

Always remember though, when it doubt...throw it out.

Sometimes honey can expand and contract causing the jar to push the honey out, its normal and the honey itself is fine. Enjoy!

If you bought local honey that was canned in small batches I would imagine it is fine.

If you bought mass produced honey at a grocery store and it isn't a big deal to take it back I would take it back.

I'd take it back, they won't give you trouble because it is an unopened food item. Also, honey doesn't go bad, so if you keep it, it should be fine. However, I'd take it back.

Take it back! You never know who or what has been in or tampered with the jar. The store will take it back.

I wouldn't worry about it. Honey is the only food that can not / will not spoil.
