My tonsils had to be removed because they were always infected.
I was in the second grade. I brought them to show and tell. I remember I was very sore and couldn't speak and it really hurt to swallow. I ate lots of vanilla pudding and I got a lot of presents, including a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles watch. Mom said when I opened that present it was the first time she had seen me smile since the surgery.

I had mine removed 2 years ago right after Christmas. It was emergency surgery since my throat closed completely. I was barely able to breathe and I couldn't get any food or liquids down without an IV. Most people tend to just leave them in if they don't have more than 5 throat infections per year. I am a singer and was then preparing for my Senior Vocal Recital in college, and not being able to speak, let along sing, was reason enough for me to go through with it. If you are a singer...Make SURE you research the doctor's you are looking into. This is an extremely delicate surgery and if he accidentally snips the wrong piece, your career if over. I did lots of research beforehand and I am happy to say that I have very few sore throats (if any at all) and my vocal quality is better than ever. Hope this helps!

The wound harm for each week, i could not talk and eat. It wasn't insufferable, yet nonetheless uncomfortable. And greater previous are you, the therapeutic technique is greater longer. when you consider that then I nonetheless get colds, distinctive ones than previously, specially circumstances much greater extreme ones. Your tonsils are there for a reason! And that reason is to guard you from infections that would desire to get into your physique. Yes, when I was about 15 I had them out. One winter I kept getting strept throat over and over again. So, my doctor recommended it, and now 5 years later, I rarely get sore throats.
