I have parakeets that live outdoors all year round. My budgies and cockatiels are in an aviary and I give them extra light from 6.00 am till 9.00 pm so that they can feed and keep themselves warm even in the coldest winter. I live in Merseyside UK and some nights the temperature drops to -5 C in December or January.

Anything below 68 degrees is too cold for a parakeet. Remember that a parakeet is a very small bird, and they are considered to be tropical birds.

Parakeets should be kept in about 70 degrees, give and take a little. They should not be kept in the path of drafts. Good luck!

The parakeet can adjust to the temperature, its drafts you have to watch out for.
