It is highway robbery in my opinion. I think doctors and the health care industry in gereral, are squeezing the life out of people, more that the diseases and illnesses which they are afflicted.

For a consultation only it is too much. When you go for a consult with the orthopedic surgeon, they will more than likely want x-rays and an MRI or CAT scan and this is getting into expenses. You need to ask what tests are included in the consult. x-rays should not be that much and MRI or CAY would be closer to $2000.

Having had many consults and many surgeries for bone problems, etc., I can tell you that you are being quoted an average rate. Remember, there will be xrays, scans, blood work, etc. Not cheap, but who would want a bonewhacker experimenting without a "look inside." Second opinions are good but are not for price shopping purposes on the initial visit.

Depends on what you are being seen for and if you have insurance. Insurance should cover everything except your copay. If this is not a medically necessary appointment (something elective instead) then you will have to pay out of pocket. For the first appointment---yes, that sounds right. It's a new patient, extended office visit. Did they do xrays, too? Those aren't cheap.

I would get referrals to more than one good Orthopedic Surgeon. Then call around. That does sound like a LOT.

Sounds right. Medical care is not cheap. No insurance?
