Hi, I was wondering if anyone could tell me if being constipated contributes to overweightness.. my son is overweight, and we've been seeing doctors for 2 years to find out why because food is not a factor.. he just doesn't eat that much, and what he does eat is healthy.. well, they told me that he was constipated very badly ( I didn't think he was because he goes to the bathroom regularly) and that is why he is so overweight.. this doesn't make sense to me.. can being constipated really make you overweight???

Being overweight can make you constipated. If your son is eating healthy and getting 30 minutes of good exercize everyday, and he's still overweight, try getting his thyrod checked. It's a blood test. If the TSH level is over 5, he has low thyroid. When mine was discovered, it was at 600. It's now undercontrol and I have more energy and only weigh 105 now. (I'm 5 feet tall)
In any case, getting exercize will lose more weight than eating less.

So both your son and your Nephew are constipated? Hmmmm I am wondering if it isn't genetics that is making them both consitpated or is it something they both eat or don't eat. Seems like there must be a connection between the two if they are both constipated. As for your question though no constipation does not cause you be overweight nor does it have anything to do with weight. If he eats little but is still overweight then this he needs to see an endocrinologist to find out if maybe there isn't more going on than the regular doc is checking for. What about that nephew you posted about a couple posts back? Is he overweight too?

It might not be the cause of him being overweight, but, being constipated can make you sick. Have you taken him to a gastroenterologist? Perhaps, there is a problem with his digestive system. Walking and plenty of fluids, especially water, can help with constipation. You may also try having your son put his feet on a small footstool when he is making a bowel movement, this causes more stool to come out. Your son may just have a slow metabolism or problems with his thyroid. That may be something that you can mention to his doctor.

I don't know his age but medications will constipate you something serious.

But an easy solution is a glass of prune juice each morning.

I am on Prednizone for one month and it will impact the bowels completely. I drink a glass of prune juice at bedtime and first thing in the morning. It keeps the system moving properly.

The answer is if FOOD GOES IN P O O P SHOULD ABSOLUTELY GO OUT. Being impacted is incredibly painful.

I'm thinking if the waste product is not going out then YES YOU WILL BE OVERWEIGHT.
