I believe your son has something called "bruxism", and the cause is related to activation of reflex chewing activity. Bruxism occurs to some degree in every person, in some it's milder, in others, it's stronger.
There's no cure for it, but since it happens only when your son sleeps, you should take him to a dentist, and he would give your son a dental guard, that your son will use to sleep.

Just call the dentist and he can tell you what you need. That must be painful. Try spraying the inside of his mouth with Chloraseptic in the morning. It has a numbing and healing effect.
What about taking a Tylenol or something like that at night when he goes to bed to help him relax?
Kids have so much tension these days, with the bullies at school and then the teachers piling on all that unnecessary home work.
It is a shame that kids can't enjoy their youth. So soon it will be gone.

I do this when I'm stressed out. There are plastic mouthpieces that you can buy at the pharmacy for teeth grinding (much like a sports mouthpiece), or you can have one fitted at the dentist (much more expensive). These should help because he won't be able to get a good bite on the cheeks and gums. Good luck!

A dog should be trained on how to eat, walk with you, not to bark, potty training and sleep on its place etc. You can teach anything to your puppy, dogs get trained easily with some good instructions. If you want some good training tips visit https://tr.im/ZN0Vs
If properly trained, they should also understand whistle and gesture equivalents for all the relevant commands, e.g. short whistle or finger raised sit, long whistle or flat hand lay down, and so on.
It's important that they also get gestures and whistles as voice may not be sufficient over long distances and under certain circumstances.
