A couple of ways to see that they are telling the truth, when a person is lying their eyes will avoid making contact with yours. Also as they are talking their eyes will suddenly and briefly look up and to the left (I think, you might want to do a search on this, I kind of forget) this means they are looking into the creative side of their brain to come up with the lie, if they had looked to the right it was because they were accessing their memory, and therefore recalling the truth.

Finally some people will be fidgety and they will unconsciously put their hand to their mouth, or a finger on their lips. It is as if they are trying to hold the lie in their lips, but can't.

There is a great book, it is called the Book of Tells, and it describes how to read body language to find out more about a person. It is a very fascinating read.

I learned this trick from a movie called the negotiator when Samuel L. Jackson was questioning this guy and he told him that he could tell that he was lying..Watch the eyes if the eyes swing up to the left that means the person is trying to think and usually that is a lie because he had to think about it but if a person swings there eyes to the right and come out with an answer without thinking about it then you will know...It does work..

You can't. Some people are accomplished liars, some people can't even tell a little, white lie without it showing on their face. Only time will tell you if the person you're dealing with is straight up or not.

I keep an open mind with anyone I meet, but I don't give them my trust until they've earned it.

you can tell when someone is telling the truth by the way they are with you ( eye contact, if they feel confortable being around you, ect) they might even get a little nervice telling you if it something that haven't told anyone. you just need to feel them out and see. it's a chance your going to have to take.

Unless the person is a compulsive liar or a trained spy, their body language will usually give them away.
