Surely you know the answer to this without asking. Braille is for blind people and it's the law.

Perhaps the answer is 1) So just in case someone blind is led up to the drive thru, they can still use it or 2) All keyboards made have Braille on the buttons, it's standard equipment made mandatory by the governing body of the state/country.

Very simple. The American Disabilities Act requires services, such as an ATM or public phone, to be handicapped accessible. That means that all ATMs have to have Braille lettering, can't be above a certain height, etc.

Good question, maybe because the law requires it in most states, and it is cheaper to put the braille on the key pads then to try to order one without the braille...kind of like a standard thing they would have to have a different mold/pattern to make them without braille.

Hey, the way sighted people drive in my area, blind people would probably drive much better!! lol
The ATMs legally have to have braille on them so blind people can get money as well. It has nothing to do with the ATM being drive-up.

Well, of course, the braille on the buttons are for blind people. Especially the ones that let their seeing-eye dog drive their car for them. hahaha
Good riddle. This is one of those un-answerable questions you hear a lot. Here is another -- Why are their locks on the doors of stores that are open 24 hours a day???? hehehe

that is a great question because what are they doing driving anyway?!!
I think the answer is that the ATM was not designed in the first place for being a drive-up ATM. The parts are probably universal and not specific for drive-up ATMs.

Well let's see...someone can drive them to the bank and maybe they don't want someone knowing their pin and stuff so that would be the answer to that one. Not just that...but how would you feel if you were blind? wouldn't you want everything possible to be in Braille??

A drive-up ATM can be used by anyone. Being a "drive-up ATM" doesnt mean you need to have a car to use it.
I sometimes walk up to a drive-tru ATM, specially if Iam not the one driving.

The people who make it are not the same people who buy it and want it installed. When the keypad is ordered, there is no mention of it's final placement. It's an oxymoron, at best, but it's the way things are.
