Sometimes I feel really depressed but it sort of comes on in waves, I don't know if what I am experiencing is just normal or if I am in denial about being depressed. For instance yesterday I was thinking about my life and got really depressed and cried myself to sleep but upon waking up this morning I feel fine and I can't remember why I was so upset? I don't know if maybe I was just having a bad day yesterday or if those were my true feelings coming to the surface and I am trying to suppress them. Does anyone else ever feel this way?

depression is often situation based, something in your life may be affecting you subconsciously. if that is the problem you should find out what it is and deal with it.
sometimes, however, depression is caused by an imbalance of chemicals in your brain. every person has levels of dopamine, serotonin and endorphines that are "happy chemicals."
if your brain is not producing these naturally you may need to see a mental health specialist and get a script. I was on effexor and lexapro (i liked lexapro better) in high school, and i think they did make a difference, as i have not experienced depression in a few years.
some alternate ways of getting through depression-
1. go outside. sunshine is a proven anti-depressant.
2. exercise. exercise naturally raises your endorphine levels.
3. don't do drugs or drink. these substances artificially and temporarily spike your dopamine or endorphine levels, and leave you with low levels the next day.
4. listen to upbeat music. i recommend the Beatles or Dave Matthews or Sublime.
5. sleep no more than 8/9 hours a day. too much sleep can be bad for you.
6. practice your hobby more often.
7. try to make a difference in someone else's life.

good luck, and i wish i could see those pretty irisheyes of yours, i bet they're a beautiful seafoam green, or maybe a light pacific blue...

first of all yes a lot of people feel the way you do and it does sound like you are depressed!! depression can come in two forms life circumstances can throw you into depression or you could have a chemical imbalance from birth (genes). the good part is it can be treated and you may not need to take meds. forever depending on your situation. go and see the Dr. tell him or her how you are feeling they will prescribe you with some anti-depressions it may take trying a few before you find the right one for you but when you do it will change your life if you are depressed !!!!( you will know) Some of them work in two or three days others it might take a few weeks to actually feel the difference, but be patient. depression is not a weakness its a disease but one that can be treated. So take care of the problem and get on with your life!!!!

Are you are female or male? I ask because it makes a difference. The innate side of you is what makes the difference. Nature influence females and males differently. There is also the factor of your negative experiences in life and how you've dealt with them, that is, moved through them or moved around them. Attitude is everything. Read "The Keys Of Life" by Shinn. This will help you. Keep your head up. Everyone gets depress from time to time. Laughter is golden. Good luck!

This is to help you understand your situation.

4 stages of depression.

First stage--- denial (denying what you know deep inside is true)

Second stage--- anger (angry because you cant accept reality)

Third Stage --- Guilt (suddenly you realized you're shortcomings and weaknesses)

Fourth Stage--- Acceptance( finally get over your depression/ conquering/ being on top/ finally deciding to move on)

All people are victims of depression at one point in their lives.

Yes, it's a part of life. If you woke up this morning and couldn't remember why you were so upset, then let it go. And have a good day. If you dwell on the past, and worry about the future...then you are crapping all over today.

Obviously, thinking about your life upset you. Why don't you start thinking about how to change it so you will be more content. And yes, it is normal sometimes to look at our lives and see things that we don't like. However, we must make positive changes to make it better. Just sitting around feeling sorry for yourself solves nothing. If you feel stuck, I suggest you see a counselor and discuss your feelings, journal daily, talk to friends and family, think about what you really want to do with your life and begin making plans.

Do these days come often? If they come once a week or say I would say you are having a bad day. If these days are every other day or so I would say denial. Get into counsling now before it gets to be every day.

Try seeing a therapist, You might not have a medically diagnosable mental illness, you might just have a ard time coping with stress. A therapist can help determine if you truly have a mental illness or not, but either way, can help you develop coping skills to handle stress and mood swings. Please consider it.
