Love is sweeter than honey and bitter than acid.

if we go to a detailed answer to your question, it would take me forever. but let me try to answer this as short and sweet as possible. when i was in college, i was in class and me and my mates were talking about what love is all about. a heated discussion transpired and i will tell you what my friends and even my professor had to say about the matter. one said that love is friendship that has escalated into another level. the other quipped love is sacrifice. one said, love is bulls**t - a way to manipulate another human being (as you can see, she was bitter at that time), the other said that love is a force to reckon with, and then my professor told us, that love is only a trick of the mind, not an actual feeling from the heart, that it is chemical excreted from a part of our brain called the hypothalamus. thus causing the feeling of romantic connection with another person. for me, love is an unending possibility, unconditional and without any agenda or hurtful intentions, it is the ability to be selfless and commit to one person no matter what odds.

If I speak with the languages of men and of angels, but don't have love, I have become sounding brass, or a clanging cymbal.

If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but don't have love, I am nothing.

If I dole out all my goods to feed the poor, and if I give my body to be burned, but don't have love, it profits me nothing.

Love is patient and is kind; love doesn't envy. Love doesn't brag, is not proud, doesn't behave itself inappropriately, doesn't seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil; doesn't rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will be done away with. Where there are various languages, they will cease. Where there is knowledge, it will be done away with.

For we know in part, and we prophesy in part; but when that which is complete has come, then that which is partial will be done away with.

When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I felt as a child, I thought as a child. Now that I have become a man, I have put away childish things.

For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I will know fully, even as I was also fully known.

But now faith, hope, and love remain-these three. The greatest of these is love.

Love is the feeling of total compassion for some else regardless of race, sexuality, height, weight, ect...in essense you love them for who they are not what they act or dress like
Not to be confused with lust, which is similiar but not the same. Lust is the feeling of excitment when they are thought of and the butterfly feeling is also in there as well...
*Love is the feeling that everything will be okay and that you want to spend the rest of your life with them regardless of their flaws.
Everyone has issues and relationships will have their problems...

good question, no one knows because there is a fine line between lust and love,

love is when you sacrifice your last 100 bucks and dont pay bills because your kid did something super stupid and needs the money,

love is giving one of your kidneys knowing you could die during and after the operation,

etc

I agree with the above answer. But, what is love? Listen to the wedding vows. If you can't do them than it's not love.

"love is patient, love is kind
it does not envy, it does not boast
it is not proud
it is not rude, it is not self-seeking
it is not easily-angered
it keeps no records of wrongs
love does not delight in evil
but rejoices with the truth
it always protects, always trusts
always hopes, always preserves
love never fails"

love is wanting what's best for the person even if it's not best for you. 1st corithians 13 in the bible is called the love chapter and it has great things to say about the subject. :)

What else is love but understanding and rejoicing in the fact that another person lives, acts, and experiences otherwise than we do…?
