COFFEE & CAFFEINE!! Keep yourself busy. Snacks, music talking to your child. If you start to feel tired, stop somewhere safe,i.e. rest area, gas station, restaurant, and get out and walk around. Go to the bathroom, stretch. Sometimes some fresh air helps. Remember, if you can't keep your eyes open, more then likely you have already doozed off for a few seconds. Be Careful!

If you're driving and seriously worried about staying awake while driving an 18 month old baby---my advice is DON'T DO IT!!

There is never a justifiable reason for putting yourself and your precious child at risk, take a bus, take a train but do not do something that you know is risky. Think about how you would feel is a tragedy occurred and you could look back on this question and know it was unnecessary?

If you aren't driving, make sure you've got adequate sleep before the trip. Eat some protein, drink some green tea (caffeine but not as jittery as coffee for some reason), some moderate sugar and some lively music. Take breaks and get out and walk around to get air and blood flowing.

Good luck.

This is a dangerous situation if you are worried about not being able to stay awake. I suggest taking a nap before heading out and take plenty of stops. And if at any point you feel sleepy at all, it's best for you to pull over.

I've driven behind an SUV who weaved from side to side and finally flip upside down. The mom was driving and she fell asleep. She had her husband, 2 kids (around 7-9 years old) a toddler and an infant. It is very scary situation.

That said, have lively music and sing out loud!

Oh and make sure you get enough sleep the 3 or more days leading up to your trip!

Staying away from cafeine actually helps keep me awake, go figure.
Take breaks, get a good nights sleep before you head out, why are you leaving the same day, won't it be better the next morning, early, like before the 1 year old wakes up, just plop him in his seat sound asleep.
If I'm too tired to stay awake while driving I find nothing helps, I'm down for the nod. I know this and act accordingly.

Yes, I drive all the time.

Bring a toothbrush and toothpaste. Take a 5 minute break every hour to go to the bathroom, walk around, whatever.

Remember that driving is a job, not an inconsequential thing on the way to your destination.

Get a book on CD.

Relax your normal eating restrictions.

Get healthy sleep at least 3 consecutive days before if you can.

Get a driving partner to share the driving, and switch a few times.

If you can, come in to work late, and make up the hours after the trip.

Remember- whatever is happening OUTSIDE the car is ALWAYS more important than what is happening INSIDE the car.

You will have to transfer riding each time you'll. To keep conscious, simply preserve speakme. No topic what occurs, preserve speakme. Talk approximately household stories or anything, whatever. A small provide of meals could be enough, check out to not get whatever that calls for guidance or whatever that is messy and will purpose disorders if spilled. Maybe a few fruit for a brief-time period snack, after which chips or particularly whatever you moderately desire for those who get hungry for the duration of the force. Make certain to convey tons of water, and if the possibility comes, quit and stretch. Sitting for 10 hours? Not too well. Also, attempt to cross gentle at the vigor beverages. An unforeseen crash might result in a much more critical crash in a while. Late night time radio could also be continuously fascinating. Coast to Coast AM is a well one, or a minimum of will preserve you conscious, if you'll discover what channel it is on.

Ive driven all over the country and the best thing that Ive found at keeping you awake is good old fashioned fireballs. Pop one of those babies in your mouth and instant awake! Sounds crazy but it really works.

Don't let it get too warm in the car - that will make you sleepy.
Play music that you like & sing along.
Drink lots of caffeine & keep snacks in the car to eat while you are driving.
If you begin to feel really tired stop and get out of the car & take a walk around a rest stop, around & around the car or whatever you need to do to wake up.
Good luck!

Drink coffee, turn on the air conditioner and point the vents toward your face, open a window. Make sure to take rest stops and get out of the car to walk around and stretch.

you could open a window so the wind blows on your face. you could drink alot of ice coffee that way the warm coffee does not make you more tired. hot drinks always make me sleepy. You could buy a cd of all your favorite songs and listen and sing to them the whole way. don't worry though if you do get too tired you should stop and move around. i have done this before and i am sure you will be fine. be careful. good luck .
