Why do I get the feeling you're going to be a lousy dog owner? That is a better question.

I just got a puppy couple months ago. If your gonna take care of it, you kind of want it to follow you. Your pup is getting pretty good idea that your the boss and he/she should be following you. your the leader. It's good to get that into your puppy's mind at an early age. THen you guys will grow close.

Your puppy sees you as the alpha leader and I am sure the puppy followed the mom and dad dog around as that is what they do when they are young and sometimes never grow out of.

Puppies are used to being in packs with a mother. You are now mom. Your puppy is looking for guidence and attention. Think of it as a child, they aren't sure what to do next so they look to you. Give lots of attention and lots and lots of toys . Encourge your puppy to play independantly and soon you will be wondering why the puppy isn't follwing you. Good luck.

Cause it was recently separated from its familiar surroundings. It has gotten to know you and to feel safe it feels the need to be with you. You've become a surrogate mother of sorts and it is also a way for the puppy to learn and adapt to its new surroundings. You'll notice it happening less when it feels comfortable in your home.

My Pipey is a velcro dog and i'm telling you I wouldn't want that to go away for anything. Even now with her at 3 years old she still follows me from room to room and sits at my feet.Once in a while she'll get a little indepandent and go into a different room ,i'm telling you then i'll miss her.

Dogs are pack animals, and as puppies they are cared for by an older pack member, and they always follow the alpha to stay safe. you being the care giver makes you the alpha of its new pack.

This is normal behavior for some breeds. Dobermans, for example, are nicknamed "Velcro dogs" because they too follow their owners everywhere. I hardly notice it anymore but I would guess it's good that he's doing that--he knows you're in charge!
