give thumbs down to an honest answer to a question

someone asked if there was a God and i gave a valid answer that there is no proof one way or another
that someone has to have their own personal proof
does this kind of answer merit some thumbs down ?

these thumbs down make no difference to me , but i am trying to understand what makes a person think someone is so wrong when they are simply presenting an arguement for both sides and remaining neutral on a question .. i see this so often ?

The thumbs-downs often come from people who disagree with you, but have NO way to argue their thoughts. They subconsciouly know you're right, but the truth hurts them and they give you a thumbs-down as a result.

That's about the only fathomable cause I could think of. I've gotten several thumbs-downs for valid answers (and some have been reported for "chatting and personal communications"); ironically, most of my crappy answers are given thumbs-up and aren't reported even if they are insulting.

I know what u mean, most replies to questions are sensible and honest. Most of us give valid reasons or opinions but get given the thumbs down. I personally hate it when u post a serious question that u need real advise on and get snide or horrible answers back. If someone does not agree with a statement then fine but why do we sometimes get idiots that just post random replies?

Many people don't like to hear points of view contrary to their own. Its childish, don't let it bother you. I used to only give thumbs down if I thought the answer was off factually but so many people are abusing the thumbs up or down in this category I now also do it for answers I think are extremely close minded or biased. The systems is meaningless really. I judge answers by their quality not the number of thumbs up or down.

I think people should only get thumbs down if the say something that cuts a person down, or if the say an answer that does NOT go with the question at all.

sometimes i see a really good reply with a very valid point,a good answer can't see why the person should receive multi thumbs down, i understand everyone has different points of view, but isn't this an open forum.

I never give a thumbs down to someone who offers their 'belief', but I do when they suggest that someone else is wrong for having a different belief. Religions in general are famous for their intolerance of other beliefs. 'There is only one true god', apparently.

It went against what someone believed and they showed their opinion to your answer. Just as you gave your opinion in your answer. All it shows is that someone didn't agree with you. I get them all the time, even if my answer is on topic and in agreement with the question. People don't always like what others type.

this happens because people are so into thier religion that they have closed they're minds to the other possibilities in life.....and I completely agree everyone has to have they're own "speritual proof" People just cant seem to understand those of us who are currently struggling to find that proof, or who just feel that the proof will find them, when religion is needed in thier lives....I personally dont feel that religion is an important part of my life right now where I am......but maby someday I'll "find jesus".....
Untill then, your gona have to keep being the bigger woman, and respect everyones beliefs........they need to lighten up!!

I have wondered myself..... i could not give a toss about the points so it does not bother me either. The people who seem to be the worst are the God squad as if you are a non believer and have an opinion thats not like theirs... you get loads... i will get loads now then lol (Oh no i wont sleep tonight)

It's like an impulse buy at the grocery store. They just use it as an opportunity to be jerks and show you someone doesn't agree with your answer in a rude way. Ignore them, I do.
