Medicine manufacturers specify the expiry date with some purpose, based on some clinical trials conducted with the medicine.

Firstly the medicine both Pills and preparations will start loosing their effectiveness and it may not act for the purpose you are taking.

Secondly, most of the medicine are made with chemical base and some properties turn to be toxic or poisionouos even and it may be harmful after these dates. It may be harmful to take it and will have adverse effect.

So it very essential to consume the medicines before expiry date and you need not consult anyone about taking it after the expiry dates. Just you have to throw them-.

Confession Session: Like many people, I've done it but I don't recommend it. Most prescriptions and the words of your doc tell you to take them until you're done--even if you feel better before you're done with them. I make it a practice to try to take things totally and not leave anything in a bottle that is a prescription. They can loose their strength and effectiveness if you take prescriptions past their expiration date.

They won't be as strong as they were when you first got them and the chemicals can change and actually harm you. There is a reason they have expiration dates. It's no good. I wouldn't take them.

Both answers are good. All I am adding is call
your pharmacist and ask your question. They will know for sure. The pills might not hurt you but
they might be too weak to help you.
