Atman is the individual soul and Brahman is the universal soul. all atmans are part of brahman. in every atman, brahman is present.
the seers of india had seen this truth millennias and had handed it down the ages through vedas, puranas, samhitas, aranyakas, upanishads etc. whateve way one choses, everything leads to god. brahman does not discriminate - good & bad, living & inert everything belongs to him. all paths lead to him.
those who seek him will have the happiness of knowing him during their life time.

As per hinduism Atman is Soul and Braham is God, the supreme consciousness.
hinduism believes, there is only ONE Soul (i.e. Brham) in the universe. This soul manifests as different individual souls with the help of Nature
This one SOUL looking like many is not a real division of the soul, but apparent due to formation of different egos by Mother Nature. It is like one Sun reflecting through innumerable water holes, each having a shodow of the sun in it!!
so literally it means, the SOUL behind our soul (individual self) is God himself.
