I cannot seem to wash the smell off after I've peeled an orange. My hands stink of citrus for hours, despite washing my hands 5 times with soap.

If you'd like your hands to smell wonderful, try this.

Add 1 cup warm water to a bowl, half a teaspoon of brown sugar and a teaspoon of lemon juice. Rub your hands with the mixture after stirring thoroughly, and then rinse with warm water.

OR, you can simply wash your hands with a scented soap, and it will cover the smell. The oils that come from the peel contain wax and oils that are absorbed in to the pores, but don't worry, it'll only stay a couple of hours, as your skin is not used to the foreign oils

Here's a tip for the girls, too.. If you want really shiny hair, rub the OUTSIDE of the orange peel down your hair in a straight line, starting from the scalp. The oils will nourish and replenish some of the damage done to hair folicles.. And the smell washes away. Normally the smell isn't even strong enough to notice, though.

Wash your hands with warm water and soap, while your hands are wet and your pours are opened up, add 3+ table spoons of baking soda and rub the paste all over both sides of your hands for 2 minutes. Rinse hands and the smell of any Orange, lemon, lime etc. (Citrus) is totally gone. Nice thing about this is baking soda can be bought at any Dollar store. All other replies are not fact!

Actually, I think I'd rather smell like an orange than like garlic (or chili peppers). Dove (the soap company) manufactures various liquid hand soaps, one of which is a "deodorizing" kind. I tried it earlier this year, and now I can't live without it.

It works really well; you just wash your hands normally--one time--and whatever you've been handling, the smell is gone. If your kitchen sink has a garbage disposal, it'll deodorize that, too.

Try rubbing your hands on something stainless steel - works for me with garlic and I would think will do the trick for just about any strong smell. I use my kitchen faucet after I peel garlic and it does the trick.

try putting baking soda in with the soap and leave it on as long as possible....the soda should take out the smell!!!
