What are the requirements for a person to become a pilot in the US Air Force? Once a pilot, what are the requirements to become a Captain?

I'd also like to know more about the specific educational qualifications required. I know you need a Bachelor's Degree. But in order to become a Captain, do you need a graduate degree?

I did visit the relevant websites, including ones for US AF recruiting, US AF careers, and etc. They list the basic qualifications to become a pilot, but not what's required to advance to Captain. A friend tells me an MS is required. It's not very clear from the sites, so I'm asking here. If you have a specific link, I'd appreciate it.

Captain is O3 in the AF. the requirements to advance to that paygrade are the same for pilots as they are for any other Officer.. time in rank as an O1 and O2 first, demonstrate sufficient knowledge of your community, and not screw up too badly in the meantime.

In addition the regular requiurements that all Officers must meet( Citizenship, 4 year degree), there are additional requirements for Aviation, including a much more stringent physicial( perfect vision, among others)

They TYPE of degree you have is also very important. hard science degrees and Engineering degrees are more in demand than Political Science or Criminal Justice. and yoru GPA better be at LEAST 3.5, or you won't be remotely competetive. The AF is over manned, and is very picky about who they accept each year.

Short answer is, it depends. Vision is just one part of the equation, as is the fitness test. Its not that hard to become an officer in the AF. Becoming a pilot is another story. It is extremely competitive, not to mention very hard. If you make good grades, not a moron, and have the desire and drive, you can make it into Pilot Training. If you graduate Undergraduate PIlot Training (UPT), then you owe the AF 10 more years of your life. Obviously you have to graduate college first to become an officer. Contact the AF ROTC unit at the college of your choice or look into the AF Academy. They will tell you exactly what to do.
