Is it normal to have the desire to go back to a prison you served time at, just for a day or so, 6 months after you've been released?

It is very normal, and very common to want to go back. There are often a variety of reasons.

Life on the outside isn't structured. The rules of society change with everyone you come in contact with.

On the inside there are a basic set of Officer rules and inmate rules. You can know what to look for, and what to do in just about all situations on the inside.

People who think inmates have it easy have either never been in prison, or been a Correctional Officer! It's not easier, but it is structured.

A. You know there is food.
B. You know there is "some protection".
C. You know where to get basic medical care.
D. You know you have a job to go to.

Major thing is outside life doesn't have near the structure!

If things are not going as well as expected outside the walls, then get hold of your PO, health and human Services, Vocational Rehab, someone! They can assist, and guide.

It's not meant to be easy, but you have to admit it's nice to have the freedom to eat when you want, sleep when you want, smoke, drink, go hang out with friends, dress up, be slobby! Do what ever you want in the time frame you want!

Yes there is some anxiety about acclimating back into society and that is normal there is some fear that you cant make it that you may fail!
Do not let these feelings overwhelm you seek consoling and guidance from a support group or clergy member they will help you stay on the path of life and "read the good book"
"I lift my eyes unto the lord my very real source of help in times of trouble" and god bless this person in there struggle!

Yes, many inmates become 'institutionalized,' meaning they can't function in the outside world. As brutal as prison can be, it provides a roof, food and a bed. Since there is no such thing as rehabilitation, inmates who have served long sentences often commit another crime so they can go back, or they end up in another institution. A sad comment on our society.

in prison you don't have to worry about responsibility. since you are fresh out all the responsibility of real life might just seem to overwhelming. hang in there . you really don't want to go back and if you do you have been institutionalized

You need to get help because it sounds like you just don't want to be a big boy and live in the real world.

But, yes, it does happen often. Get counseling.
