Excellent Question, for the zillions of times I have seen it here. Not only in the pets category, yeah it is asked in other categories as well. IS there anyone that will step up and put an end to this QUESTION once and for all? WHO will answer the chicken or the egg? And to the asker will you vote to end this once and for all?, or can you go all out on Q&A's to be the first to ask for a resolution? By the way some of us know the answer. Good luck on your venture.
Sorry, just saw this was your first question. Look at categories that interest you and enjoy this site for the results that apply to you.

It depends on whether your talking about a chicken egg, or just any kind of egg.
If you're talking about any kind of egg, then since fish came before chickens in both the creation story and evolution theories, the egg came first.
But if you're talking about specifically chicken eggs, then the chicken had to have come first because only chickens can lay chicken eggs.

i think the chicken evolved....
have you not seen the cartoon where the chicken and the egg lie in bed with the voice over."which came first the chicken or the egg?" one turns to the other and said "well guess that answers that question"

I don't agree with sdvwallin. If you are creationist, that dinasour is a proto-chicken, so the chicken must evolve first so that it may lay eggs. If we go further back, we'll see that the amino acids formed some kind of life form before beginning to reproduce. I know. Been there. :)

Chicken evolved from another animal or was created by God (depending on your beliefs) then laid a chicken egg. So the chicken came first.

It depends on your ideological direction.
If you are a Creationist, the Chicken came first when God snapped his fingers.
If you are a Darwinist, the Egg came first because it was laid by a mutating dinosaur.
