If you win a "cash scholarship", is that the same as cash or does it have to be used for schooling?

It's a scholarship in the sense that the financial aid office of your school will treat it as such, and you will not get any other money out of them. But if it is more than needed for essentials, such as tuition, books, rent, food, laundry, etc., then some of it can be used for entertainment, etc. Just don't run out before the end of the semester.
