I am not trying to lose weight; just keep in shape. And my earbuds for my mp3 player, i have just discovered, are broken. Any ideas?

I tend to have the same problem. Don't get me wrong, I love to workout to keep in shape, but it's the starting point that I have trouble with. I have no motivation to get up and get going. Once I have that push, I'm unstoppable!

Unfortunately, I don't have anyone around to give me a "push" so I try to motivate myself by telling myself I'll reward myself to a pedicure, or a nice bath, or a movie or buy the cute pair of heels I saw at the mall by the end of the week (if I stick to my guns and workout through the entire week for 30 minutes).

You can try that method or find a buddy to jog with. Time will fly by as you talk and you can keep each other motivated.

First get a cheap replacement set of ear phones.

The one thing that will motivate you to go for a jog and keep you going week after week is finding a way to do it that gives you enjoyment and pleasure. Just jogging is enough for some but others, like me need a bit more encouragement.

I like to jog along the riverbank which makes the whole thing a nice pleasent experience. It's also nice to find someone to jog with.

I always feel better after running so that helps me to keep going too.

Go buy new cheapy earphones if you don't have $$ but start by doing a 1/2 hour walk- I even used to listen to audio books on a 5.00 cassette player. Within 1-2 weeks, uou will want to get out- then start lengthening time and going faster! It becomes a habit you don't want to miss- if you do it in the morning you feel like you've accomplished so much more that day!

If you force yourself for a few weeks unhappy, miserable, tired whatever your body will become accustomed to it and will eventually look forward to it. You can also reward yourself for self set goals (one week solid=Good Desert,6 weeks solid= 1 hr massage) If you have something to look forward to after the run it can even perk you up toward the end of your run. While in afghanistan mine was orange flavored Endurox made with ice cold water, I still smile when I think about it.

yes, go buy new earbuds. and stick your mp3 player in your sports bra and jog. its hard to start but once you do and your body becomes used to it. you crave (or your body craves) the workout. it does become a drug, just one that is better for you and keeps your stress level down.

You can also set a goal of 'x' number of days you want to jog. Keep track of the days of these days by writing them down and you might reward yourself with a small gift when you have reached a monthly goal. I like shoes!!
