What SHOULD the store have done?

They should have at least apologized. I don't think that it was their fault, the grapes probably came from the distributor that way unless they are infested. But I think that they should have offered her some help with medical expenses and apologized, it's the nice thing to do. If I where her I would not shop at that store anymore. If the service is bad it's not worth giving them your money.

There's really not so much the store can do, I'm sure they're trying to make sure all the spiders are out before they put the grapes on the shelf. A Black Widow is not likely to kill you and she won't give you cancer like pesticides can. The farmers are using the spiders in an effort to keep your kids from getting cancer.

Store employess are told to never, ever take the blame for something.

A black window spider inside a bag of grapes would probably be at the fault of the farmer, or who ever distributed it, not the store.
