A pugilists heart is not contingent what style he or she is accomplished at. In Professional fighting, your "heart" is your ability to rise up against adversity, no matter how grave the situation is. Filtering out distractions like (but not limited to) fighting on your opponents home turf or in front of a crowd that is predominantly rooting for your opponent, fighting with an annoying injury ie broken nose, rib, hand, twisted ankle, bloody gash etc, ... or being aware that you are way behind on the scorecards, recent domestic issues or mental distractions, you get the idea. Heart is an individual asset and I believe not relevent to ones style. Boxers have Heart. Brawlers have Heart.

A boxer who has heart will get up off the canvas and keep fighting when he is hurt. He will take on any fighter not pick the more suitable ones. When Ghatti had both eyes swelled almost completely shut and he somehow came out for one more round and got a desperate knockout that showed heart. When Vinny Pazienza called out Roy Jones demanding a fight...(even though he got his butt kicked) that showed heart. Floyd Mayweather avoiding the Hatton's, Margarittos, ect. may be smart but not a lot of heart. Also Andrew Gollatta resorting to desperate tactics like Low blows, kicking and rabit punches against Riddick Bowe when he seemed to be winning the fight anyhow really showed lack of character and heart. A brawler usually suggests lack of boxing skills or just a BIG confidence in one's punch. It is an entertaining style of fight but makes for a shorter career at times.

Pretty much all "brawlers" "have heart" b/c they go in there face first and think the best defense is a good offense. A more technical boxer shows "heart" any time the can overcome adversity; ie. getting up from a knockdown, not quitting even while getting severely beaten, fighting with a nasty cut, showing your best stuff in the late rounds, etc.

a brawlers skills are limited, they usually win fights because they go straight ahead and put so much pressure on their opponet they just submit.to defeat a brawler you must be in great shape because you have to "stick and move." a fighter who has heart is on who wins or draws when he should have lost.he never gives up and after the fight you have to respect him even if you bet against him.

the ability to overcome adversity, to win a fight they should have lost to someone with more talent, heart can only take you so far though.
