Poster 22 could be right, but then I know nothing about your boyfriend ~ maybe he's not so easily made happy as Poster 22 suggests.
A lot depends on whether your boyfriend (and you too) is open to and able to communicate about these things..!
There are no Rules, but there are Rituals and Norms to procedures ...BUT, nothing is written in stone.
'Romancing him,' I like the term 'before sex' ....it smacks of naivety or innocence, which is lovely, just as does your request for info or help here.
There's no one or definitive answer to your question, there's no information about your boyfriend that gives any help towards an answer.
Try telling him, try asking him, try explaining what you want - to be a good / ideal lover to / for him, and that you feel ...! Nervous! fear failure! or ....whatever you do feel.
Who knows, the open honesty of your expressing this might well be an emotional connection that links you together, creating an additional 'time' you shared that you value....! or not....! or...! whatever.
Some people think that 'one answer fits all,' but it doesn't. Be yourself, don't attempt to be something that you are not. I might love my girlfriend for trying, but I'd prefer her to simply be what she is.

We guys like a lot a ******* and a little erotic dance always works on turning us hot. You could turn it into a game.
Each of you write down a few thoings you want the other person to do to you or that you would like to try together (like role playing).
Put them in a hat and take turns to pick one out. Each person is a allowed an agreed number of 'refusals.
Saying what you really want is difficult but this is a fun way of exploring different sides to your sex life.

Go to an Ann Summers shop or any sex shop and get the board game "Fantasy for Lovers" There are some great games in there to play and instructions on how to play them

Guys are usually shy about that but yes asking is the best know how.
