I agree with the first answer... you also should stop licking your lips, it helps it spread. Also, cold sores usually appear when your body is stressed or tired. Make sure you get enough rest. There is an OTC called Abreva. Whenever I get a fever blister or a cold sore, I use Abreva and it works pretty well.

Time for a doctor. You need a prescription for herpes medication. Don't be alarmed, all cold sores are caused by a version of herpes, not the same one that is a STD. Plus you could have something else like impetigo, which is a bacterial infection.

first of all, stop touching them; you are spreading them with your fingertips or with whatever you are touching them
get a good antiseptic pencil or lotion
it is a virus, and you can't get rid of it (herpes virus) but you can make sure they don't spread or get infected
get medical help if they don't seem to be fading within three days
if you must touch them, do so with a tissue that you use in one area only; use a different tissue for each area

The absolute best over the counter treatment is carmex. It comes in Lip balm, chapstick usually in a yellow and red container or tube. Keep applying it for 3 days straight and it will clear up in about 3 days or so.
