germany, italy and japan (axis) lost militarily, while US, UK, USSR, and liberated France as well as some European forces (allies) won the fighting. China was at civil war and unable to effectively beat the Japanese.
in economic terms, because of the Marshall Plan, economically, the US, Germany, France, Japan did very well but the USSR, UK and China did not.
The biggest winner is undoubtedly the US, but at the moral cost of 2 nuclear weapons dropped on ciivilian targets, a war crime of some magnitude (though not that of the holocaust, the killing of millions of jews and others in europe by the german nazis)

Allies won the war. Not even a question about it.
But we can't forget who lost...not so easy to discuss. The numbers of people effected makes this particular war so ...popular. Games based on war, WW2 is represented the most, and not suprizing.
I cant say.."yeah, we won that war..", without thinking about the one's in uniform we lost as a result.
