Dear Vachoo,

Thank you for asking!
I believe a whole lot in the power of prayer. I don't just mean "good thoughts" but prayer to the awesome uncreated Creator of the universe.

It isn't my prayer that has power but the One that I'm praying to.

So many of my prayers have been answered in the most wonderful ways and yet sometimes I get so bogged down by what I see going on in the world that I don't pray.

One of the most dramatic answers I got to prayer came nearly 15 years ago. I worked in the internal audit department at a bank and things were not going well in the economy. The bank had been excellent in residential real estate but Share Holders were demanding that we do commercial real estate where the big money was. After a few years things started floundering. There was very little leadership from our leaders and then my husband filed for divorce.

I could barely even twiddle my thumbs let alone function. One Sunday morning before going to church I knelt by my bed and started praying, "Lord, I just want ..." I didn't even have the words to finish the prayer. I just knew I wanted the PAIN to be gone. I believe the Holy Spirit finished my prayer for me "... to read the Bible from cover-to-cover. Will You arrange the time and the money?"

Two days later my whole department got laid off and I got 15 weeks of severance pay. Even though the economy was not good my co-workers actually found much more satisfying jobs and I spent my time reading The Daily Walk Bible (that was also an answered prayer). It was so good I couldn't put it down and I finished it in 90 days.

Yes, I definitely believe in the power of prayer when one prays to the heavenly Father in Jesus' Name.

Edit: Nowadays I pray "Heavenly Father, the Holy Spirit and I weren't praying for the time and money to read the Bible just once."

With Elijah on Mount Carmel in mind (see 1 Kings 18) I've been praying for a way to read the Bible with small groups of people aiming for a total of 850 people (450 + 400).

I have never had a prayer not answered. Some took years to come and some came that I didn't like the answer, but I always had one. I do not believe your prayers go unanswered.

As for the power: I have seen many things of great power. Once about 15 years ago I was at the laundry mat doing what you do there. I was consumed with a great sense of passion for this young girl on a paper clipping. I read the article and she had been kidnapped and the mother was overcome with heartache. A powerful presence came over me to pray for this child and her mother. That night I dreamed of how she was kidnapped and where she was in a dark room under the church. So I continued to prayer each day with such intensity. After about 3 days of this the girl was found under a church floor in a room taken by a worker at the church. The mother on T.V. said she knew God would answer her prayers and cried. Then like a light going off I knew why this prayer overtook me. It was the mother and God had used his people to prayer her daughter home. the girl had been missing for about 6 weeks. So there is power in prayers and God uses his people to accomplish His will

The power in Prayer IS awesome! if it is from your heart, with good intentions, and in God's will for your life... things maynot always turn out the way you pray for them too- however God sees and knows all, and he will nakw another way if there is a stumbling block ahead- you must have faith, and ask with an earnest heart.

I am not talking about "god let me win the lottery" wich Im not saying could not happen, but that would only be for the 'right person IE- a person starting up a homeless shelter, or a group home, you see?
I hope this helps.

I don't because I have never seen it's power enter the realm of reality, those around me have tried prayer in their life and it has achieved nothing. Most only believe it out of a desire to have hope in their current state of hopelessness. I say to anyone who truly believes in the power of prayer that I put forth the challenge I once saw in film,I will begin hitting you,you will begin praying and we shall see which happens first, will God come to your aid or will I beat you to death first? That may be harsh but I think it makes it clear how I feel about prayer.

From personal experience ,there is absolutely no evidence it does any good ,except in the minds of those who believe in its power.
I prayed as a youngster on up to my teens .
All i really did was calm myself in the hopes of what I prayed for would come true .
Mind you ,these prayers were always for others and not me .
THEY NEVER CAME TRUE,
What I did was rationalize like every other believer that this is the way god wanted it to be .
So god was always against my wishes and prayers .
He never materialized to me ,I was just a blind believer .
I stopped believing and you know what ,MY life got Better.
I no longer felt guilty ,or alone like when I pretended there was a god.
There are others out there just like me .
We realized we are the ones responsible for our lives ,not some invisible entity.
I now can see how I was fooled and controlled by religion .
My parents gave me my morals and the direction on how to live ,NOT SOME BOOK (which i never believed its stories )
Sorry if this offends anyone but now I feel more intelligent believing in reality than some spirit in the sky.

Many times, it helped me in my time of dire needs. like when i was so down and alone in my bedroom, i think i was crying myself to death until my eyes cannot open anymore and at that time, i called Him and i said, i was so down and don't know who to talk to and you know what, He responded right away when my phone rang and out of the blue a good friend of mine which was a country away called me and i guess, i got better for someone to talk to and second, I know He knows when I really need His help. And this is just one of many incidents that I know my prayers were answered. I really believed and all you have to do is tuned in with it. Don't just look at the obvious, look beyond it, sometimes what you see is not always to your liking but the outcome is what you should seek and understand.

Prayer is powerful. Whenever 2 or more are gathered in Jesus name, He is there also. God is moved by our prayer. And when we pray His will in Jesus name He will do it for us.

My prayers are answered all of the time. But I have learned to be careful as to what to pray for, because sometimes I get it that way... a case of getting what is wanted, and not needed.
