Hiya
I just came across this page while I was googling to see what coverage there's been of toilet phobia. I've been involved in the media campaign run by the phobics society this week and wanted to see people's reactions. I suffer from a toilet phobia (my phobia is that I will poo myself if I don't get to a loo on time because I have irritable bowel syndrome and often have upset stomach) and any of you wanting to get support with similar issues please either contact the national phobics society or the uk online toilet phobia group (search yahoo groups). It's a massive issue but you can get help! Tanya :-)

YOUR NOT ALONE!Well I always dislike the way you have to pick the cubicles for public toilets.. okay number 1..do you pick the one where some idiot has kicked in the bowl and placed it on top of the system. Or door number 2 where the gentleman has produced the biggest crap ever and not flushed and there is no toilet roll. How did he do that, just drop the tweeds crap and go saying.. "that will dry in the sun that" ORR number 3 the gentleman had a sprinkler attached to his ***. Crap everywhere except in the toilet. And number 4 reasonably okay, but no LOCK! So i pick number 4 and hold onto the door and the bastard opens outwards!!!
Yep, always prey for a good one. But its like the lottery.

Absolutely, even traveling can be a disaster if I don't take some laxative with me, whether sleeping at relatives or hotels, even in private rooms etc. I need my toilet. Forgot about malls and restaurant, even work. I can have the urge, go to the toilet, sit down and the urge is gone. It's like my butt gets a key and locks its door. Of course then later at home I am constipated. It's absolutely nuts. But I hate going in a public rest room and smell other peoples stink too and yet I envy them to be able to just go.
And to answers Rose's question. I check out the rest room first, if its a stinkhole, I won't eat in that restaurant. I guess I must be a paranoid nut.

Yea, I'm kind of like that. If I'm out in public and I need to use the restroom, I lay layers of toilet paper on the seats, and I don't sit down. Some of the bathrooms in restaurants are really scary. When the restrooms in restaurants are that bad, what do you think the rest of the restaurant looks like? Yuck

Indeed. I refuse to use public restrooms or anyone else's bathroom for that matter. It is almost as if I could hear the germs screaming out to me! Horrible. I'd rather hold it in and wait until I arrive home, where I know it's clean.

My bf refuses public. He even refused my house until we moved in together. He would actually go home and has left work to go home.
I think its something a lot of people do.
I wouldnt in school.
And I dread public bathrooms. But when I got to go - i got to go man.
And like Rose s answer above, if the bathroom is nasty in a restaurant - I wont eat there.
It grosses me out.

Number 1s aren't a problem but I really need to be touching cloth before I'll let a number 2 go

Sure do missy! if the bath room is the generous place to be even for a toothbrush, I do have a big problem with sitting on the toliet too, in public places.

I tend to hover if I need a number 2 in public. Not really the best idea, but when you got to go, you just got to go!!
