It was obviously written to explain the unexplainable, this would explain the obvious mistakes that are easily proven wrong by science that existed in early writings. It's not a bad thing for man to try to explain the world in which he lives, that's all scientists try to do everyday,it's not even wrong to be passionate or even stubborn in your beliefs once you reach them, what is horrid is when it reaches the point of delusion and madness which describes a good part of the history of modern religion. Most of it has been pretty harmless, goofballs "speaking in tongues" etc, but this delusional attitude has cost mankind quite a bit too. The Inquisition,The Crusades,The Holocaust,Palestine/Israel, Bosnia etc. Feel free to add to the list there's plenty. And of course it has also served as a very good tool to control people, especially in western societies.

Religion was invented to explain the unexplainable. In the early days of worship man had no money, he lived in caves or primitive huts.
Even Christianity in the beginning was a poor religion but money lovers latch on the spiritual ways to make money.

Invented to try to explain the unexplainable (unfortunately now that as a society we can explain almost anything religion is too ingrained now) but the first is just a real handy benefit.

It was created to give order to society, as well as explain the unexplainable.
It's just another type of big business now, usually.

First, I don't think religion was invented. For to say that religion was invented is almost as nonsense as saying that hunger or love was invented. You see, these are more like feelings and not one can tell you how you feel except for your own self.
In addition, religion is a belief, whatever it may be, and at this time no one is able to impose it on another.
I think what you meant to ask was that if CHURCHES were invented.
Although these proclaim to be the carriers of religion, they are not a necessity to have religion or faith.

Religion was created so that man would have rules to follow that would preoccupy his mind and trick him into thinking he is better than others.
Do not mistake Christianity with religion. Christianity is the polar opposite of religion. Christianity is a relationship that saves.

The first sign a species is becoming sentient is when they have evolved to the point where they can abstract enough to invent a god. The first time a species achieves sentient maturity is when they get rid of their gods.

I agree with the 1st answer to a point...There are some churches that are exceptions, you just have to know where to look..But as for the most part, people have taken advantage of the situation.
