There wouldn't be THAT many jobs lost. The cons would be the illegal product/distribution of alcohol. The pros would be less drunk driving, less beaten wives and childrens, less liver disease, less country music.

During the last Prohibition of alcohol, it created opportunities for people willing to break the law by supplying alcohol to make a lot of money. While this landed Al Capone in jail for Tax Evasion, it made it possible for Teddy Kennedy to become Senator of Massachussetts.

The first prohibition led to rampant organized crime, giving the mafia a foothold in American society. To reinstate prohibition would create another such black market. It would likely be even more widespread today than is was the first time, with all the home-brewers.

Think about how much more you would have to pay in taxes for the simple fact that the government would lose billions in tax dollars from the drinks that get sold every year. Thats why they will never prohibit smoking also.

Job loss would not be my concern. The concern is revenue loss for individual states. States lose money because they cannot collect liquor tax. They would also have to expend more money to enforce the prohibition. It's a lose/ lose. Yes, they should legalize marijuana. That tax money would be incredible.

There would not be jobs lost, because there would be more of a need to enforce it. I would not care I've had 3 bottles of beer in my fridge all year long.

They should legalize marijuana- I don't smoke it, but the tax revenue would be killer.

ROFL! What are the odds that people who answer on this topic would want prohibition? Heck no!

Pros: Amateur drinkers wouldn't get stupid and get hangovers.
Cons: Crime, job loss, economic impact, bitchiness, culinary impact....

No, because Prohibition bankrolled the rise of organized crime. Who needs more of that?
