I think we need a balance in walking with the LORD. We are told to be wise stewards of that GOD has given us and I do believe this means preparing for retirement. Many years ago, this would not have been as necessary because families took care of each other. they valued their elders. Today, it seems like they can not put them in nursing homes fast enough (as long as they do not have to pay for it)

Yes we are told to think of others and in doing so, would that not also include saving for our senior years so we are not a burden to them?

certainly not, we should not seek our own selfish welfare at the expense of God or neighbor, but strive to put a healthy distance between our ego and the needs of others.
this is a little guide that seems to me to be ideal,
God is first,
my family is second
my friends are third
I am last.

That's one of those questions that doesn't have the same answer for every individual. As a single man with no children who lives a "Kingdom first" lifestyle I'm not saving for my retirement because I trust that God will continue to meet my needs all throughout my life.

Matthew 6:31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. 34 "Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

But another person with a different situation or a different level of faith might still contribute a significant amount of money to God's Kingdom work here on earth but also set aside money for retirement or for their spouse or children as the case may be. In the parable Jesus gave us about the rich man whom God called a "fool" the problem wasn't that the man was putting away for his retirement, it was that he had no thought whatsoever about dedicating a portion of his providence to God.

Luke 12:16 And he told them a parable, saying, "The land of a rich man produced plentifully, 17 and he thought to himself, 'What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?' 18 And he said, 'I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. 19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.' 20 But God said to him, 'Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?' 21 So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God."

You can't take it with you when you go! "Store up your treasures in Heaven, when
moth and rust does not destroy". By the things you say and do in the present.
