Air Force! its the most civilian job in the military! they have the best equipment, best bases, best technology and oppertunities, my husband joined when he was 19 and is 22 now, he absolutely loves it! he goes to college and works, he's been all over the place, Hawaii, Guam, Diego Garcia, Thailand, Afganistan, Kyrgistan, Turkey, Malaysia, he gets to see some pretty neat stuff, just last week he was in Wyoming so the pilots decided they would fly super low over Yellowstone park! the pics were amazing, very exciting life,

I was in the Air Force for 23 years, I don't know about the Navy. Depends, you might end up on sea duty for long periods of time in the Navy. I see nothing wrong with joining the Navy though. The Air Force tends to have better locations to be stationed at, and better dormitories. Honestly, I am sure the Navy has fine facilities too. All branches of the military have jobs available that aren't heavily technological or math intensive. You will be given an aptitude test to see how well you do, and they will give you a list of jobs most likely suited to your abilities. Providing the job you want isn't overfilled. I know it takes longer to get promoted in the Air Force, so if you want faster promotions I guess it's the Navy. Best of luck in whatever branch of the military you choose.

I am prior service army and it might not seem politically correct to say but I am regretting it now. I served my active duty time went reserve to the inactive reserve. Now because of what is going on in the world...I am once again active. Being a soldier is a lifelong dedication because you can always be called back. As far as paygrades, during training, your pay is not going to be that great. Personally I thought that difference only added up to be about 600.00 a year??????
***After reading the answer below mine, I have something to add.Promotions come easier depending on your MOS a lot of the time. If you are in the medical field, you will be promoted quicker than a tank operator. If you see combat, you will be promoted quicker. Overseas assignments pay more. You can also get paid more for TDY or tour of duty. You chances of getting promoted is also greater if you do extra things like Combat Life Saver. No promotions is going to be given. When you become a NCO, you will need to go to POLDC first. Hope this helps Usually in the army the first couple of ranks are auto. After 6 mths you get your PV 2, and you can actually come in as high as a E-4 specialist depending on your educational backgroup. If you go to OCS, of course you will be paid more.******

ALL ranks across all the branches make the same amount of money... E1 marines make the same as E1 airmen, seamen and soldiers. Have you taken the ASVAB? That will be the first in determining what MOS(jobs) in the military you are eligible for. Good luck. My husband is an MP in the Army, which has been nice because we have been able to go to LOTS of places all over the world. Some MOS's can only go to certain installations.

The surface community in the Coast Guard has historically been better at promotions then the Aviation side of the house. Things have gotten a little better in the past years for the Airdales but still can't compare to the fleet. Of course, this all depends on you and what you accomplish. If you're average, you'll get average promotions.

All branches of the service promote on how well you do your job and measure this via a rating exam. So it will depend on you and how well you learn your job, and how well you perform.
Some branches of the service have higher turn over in personnel, which can also accelerate the need for promoting.

If you don't have good math or technical skills but do have the APTITUDE to improve them, the Navy would be a good place to do that. So would the Air Force.
