and say how can we believe a book (eg Quran) written by people while you believe in science books written by scientists. What's the difference?

Sithy...what's any of that got to do with anything. Medicine is something you take and it works before your very eyes. Do you see monkeys evolving into humans in front of you? NOOOOOOOOO.

No the only proof they have about the monkey thing is that we have similar genetics and stuff, but so what? That just means we're similar, not the same thing.

I could call you stupid buy the lack of sentence structure, spelling, grammar and punctuation in your question.

And who is the 'you' you are referring to?

P.S. I think you mean 'Koran'

ok PEDRO! 1) You didn't answer my question. It has nothing to do with grammar. That appears to be all you know. and 2) THAT IS NOT HOW YOU SPELL QURAN DUMBASS ! I SHOULD KNOW IM MUSLIM. ITS Q'URAN!!!!!

Quran is the WORD OF GOD...
not a word of Quran has been changed since the time of its revelation 1400 yrs back....
Quran has described EMBYOLOGY the way we know it exists now after sooooo many years of research...
in the Quran Allah has ordered us soo many times to OBSERVE the universe... n to seek knowledge...
the Prophet (pbuh) ordered that the prisoners of war of "the war of BADAR" wud be freed if each of them taught ten muslim children to read n write....
n he also said that .. that its an obligation on every Muslim to seek knowledge from cradle to grave!!!
n thats why when the west was in the DARK AGES.. the Muslims invented sooo many things...
let it be Razi who used Opium as anesthesia..
or Ibn Haithm who described the anatomy of the eye..n made the first pinhole camera.. n made the lens
in the Muslim Spain .. there were 700 private hospitals in ONE city.....
Muslims invented the LABORATORY CONCEPT cuz before them the Greeks just used to make theories n there was no concept of labs etc...
the Muslism had their downfall becuz they LEFT THE TEACHING OF QURAN N THE SUNNAH!!!
they went into the luxuries of life.. n hence their downfall came....

There are a couple of differences between a science book and a religious text. For one thing, science books don't claim to be the ultimate truth. They have very well-defined areas of expertise - whether it's about evolution, or cosmology, or whatever - and it is always understood that anything in them can be superseded by subsequent discoveries.

The main difference though is that of verifiability. If I look in a science textbook, it will have references back to the original publication of the experiment. I can then look up that experiment and, if I really don't believe what the authors said, *I can reproduce the experiment*. If I do this and I don't get the same result as the original authors, I can publish my own findings contradicting theirs. Other scientists will hopefully also publish their results, and we should find either that the original authors were right, or I was.

The point is that you can't do this with a religious book. It may be that Muhammad heard the word of God. Or it might be that he was just a brilliant poet and an astute political leader. But when the Quran makes claims about the world or the nature of God, it is not possible to repeat the experiment to verify them. There's the fundamental difference.

The problem with religious people is that they assume that Atheists and scientists accept science in the same way as they accept religion. Science is (as mentioned by others) based on evidence, which can be verified by anybody at any time. Nothing in science is accepted without proof. That is the ESSENTIAL difference. I don't need to believe in gravity. It can be proved, demonstrated. It is a fact. If anyone could prove Newton wrong they would be famous and rich. If they could they would. Science is about testing and retesting. Refining and improving our knowledge about the universe.
How much of what you read in the Q'uran can you prove? How much of it is evidence based.
You believe, I know. That's the difference.

Darling, if you check the most solidly proven scientific facts with facts you find in the qur'an, then you'll realise that most of the time scientists only CONFIRM what the Qur'an says.
The Darwin's Evolution Theory raises question that it can NOT answer, whereas the Qur'an never raises any quetsion, and even the sceptic would find it hard to find a question or point left unanswered or unexplored, unlike, i may add, the Bible, which, and this is a KNOWN fact, was changed many times over the time.

People believe that Science and Religion clash as total opposites, but they do NOT! Science only confirms the Qur'an in this case, so, no, i don't believe that there is any difference. People who call Muslims stupid do so because they do not have any CLUE, but you will fidn that people who actually BOTHER to study Islam always and INEVITABLY cme to respect it.

And anyway, insulting someone on their religion is a LOW thing to do, and any EDUCATED person would know better.

So i totally agree with you and am sorry if anyone called you stupid because you believe in a Holy Book.

Take care and keep faith

PS Don't SWEAR! It'll make people respect you more!

I just wanted to say that both Quran and Koran are accepted English spellings. I use Quran myself as that is what I learnt at school.

Anyway, I don't call anyone stupid for what they believe. I think the Quran is a brilliant book. I am not a Muslim but I can see a lot of wise things in the Quran.
"The sayings of Muhammad are a treasure of wisdom, not only for Muslims but for all of mankind." - Ghandi (a Hindu)

I think people tend to make fun of the belief systems of others because of insecurities in their own beliefs. Personally I think a person with a strong system of belief can accept the beliefs of others and accept the flaws in their own beliefs.

Anyway that is my opinion.

The difference is that science can be proved in the theoretical sense and the practicle. The Holy Koran cannot be proved. Islamists use this as a Rule Book and live by it stringently. The Holy Bible is looked upon as a Guide Book. Purely for guidance. All Christians realise that and recognise that it has been translated several times (without the aid of computer). Meanings and some truths were obviously lost. I hope this helps to bring a little logic to the situation!

I should add that I have never called anyone stupid because of their religion. I respect everyone's right to live according to whatever they believe in provided it does no harm to others.

Okay I wasn't going to say anything but you said about "monkeys evolving before our eyes". Do you know anything about evolution? It's a lengthy process and it takes millions of years for one species to change into another on that level, there's a whole amount of transition between them. And before you go on about there being no transitional fossils, you're blind, there are plenty considering all fossils are transitionals, there are no "goals" in evolution. Plus also consider the fact that the conditions for fossilisation are quite high.

About your claim that we "believe in" science books, we don't. We believe that scientists have taken their time to consider all evidence and proof and have come up with the answers written in the book because they have shown how they did it, that's one of the main principles of science - show your method. You choose to believe in a book that has no scientific backing and therefore has no place outside of your religion, except perhaps small sections of it that may have been confirmed by other sources showing up in a history lesson.

Science is beginning to now prove the things in the holy books to be true. So, there is nothing that says religion and science can not work hand in hand.

Why does it matter if G-d used evolution to attain our world and people? Isn't it still all from G-d?

I do not know, tho, how Christians can say G-d is a trinity. G-d is One. That is where I draw the line on religion--let us just say that is illogical, not stupid.

Nobody is stupid to believe in a book (e.g Quran) or anything.

That's what believe is for!

That's the reason why we believe! It is for something that we do not understand or sometimes we cannot possibly understand due to our limitation as human being.

To acknowledge that we are limited is the first step to know the truth and when we know the truth the truth will set us free.

:)

Science is more of an observation of the physical world rather than a whimsical belief system.

Many of the teachings in Religions are based on science.
i.e. many people that ate pigs years ago died, because they had infections, or gave people food poisoning - this observation (pigs can kill you if you eat them) led to the religious crazies believing that God did not want you to eat Pork and punished you if you did - and therefore many religious crazies don't eat pork to this day, even though Pork generally won't kill you any more...

The difference is that no science text would ever make the kind of fantastic claims made in the Bible or the Quran, and any claims made must be backed up by observation, evidence, and testing.
