I just moved into campus apartments and they have left food on stove, or pans in sink un washed, or not cleaned up forman grill... I've cleaned dishes and grill, but am getting tired of this - what should I do?

Start eating elsewhere. Start letting the filth pile up. If you don't make the mess, you don't have to clean it up. You might even drop a few fake roaches about the kitchen until the real ones show up !

This will always be a problem, as long as you choose to live with other people -- even when you get married and have children, you will be dealing with people who have different ideas about what comprises "clean" and "safe."

Talk to your roommates, and ask them what they want you to do with their stuff. "Clean it, man," is not a good answer. And take note of what they do clean -- maybe someone likes vacuuming, and another likes doing bathtubs. If there is some sort of balance, that's good.

But, dirty kitchens are not just unsightly -- they attract roaches, mice and other pests. It may come down to the fact that "whoever is the most bothered by it has to do it." In that case, suck it up. *You* deserve to live in a clean place, even if you've got to do the work. Don't be a martyr, and get some tips from Flylady (who is a housecleaning guru).

Ask other people how they handle roommate problems, and ask your roommates (in a friendly fashion) how they have handled roommate problems in the past. And if worst comes to worst, look for new roommates. It's really hard to find perfect roommates, but there's got to be a better match out there.

Good luck!

Best bet is to move all their stuff to one side to start with, dont worry about washing it. The best advice I can give is not to worry too much about the state of the place, your in campus apartments, its a place to chill out and relax. If you really cant deal with the mess, just have a word, simpliest one being "Hey guys, just moved your stuff to the side for you" and then they'll have to clean it at that point. If it still doesnt happen, either have a proper word or keep your own food utensils away from them :) Hope that helps

This is simple and I've done my remedy twice with total complete success.

You tell them if they don't clean up the dishes you are going to put them in their bed. Of course they don't take your seriously and will not clean up the dishes. Then you take the dishes and hide them somewhere and put other things under their blankets.

They will walk into the kitchen. See the clean sink. Go running to their bedrooms and see the lumpy bedcover and freak out! I've seen this twice. We laughed our butts off and the message got through. Next time.....

You could leave it there but they won't notice. If they would notice, they would be cleaning it in the first place. Unfortunately, if you want it clean, you will have to be the one to do it. If it's very important, maybe you would even need to move in with people who share your same concerns.

Not much you can do besides tell them how you feel. It's like anything else. You can't change them. All you can do is talk to them and hope they respect your feelings or take yourself out of the situation.

You're not their maid, don't bother cleaning up after people who don't appreciate it and don't even try to be responsible for their own mess.

Tell them how you feel about the situation, if you don't they might say, "Why didn't you tell us you had a problem with this?" and start giving excuses.

1. Don't clean it up or your going to continue being the one doing the clean-up.
2. How long are you willing to wait before someone cleans up?
3. You need to set down with them and set up some rules as for the clean-up etc.

I would talk to them about it obviously while they were at home they didnt know what housework was. But, you are not there slave or maid so, quit picking up after them. Sit them own and talk to them about it. If that doesnt work report it to someone. Just dont wait too long to talk to them because of bug issues.. Good luck
