lol thanks for the answers and I'm glad I entertained some of you with the question! I'm at Uni so its pretty noisy- I got given some ear plugs but I lost one of them, so... I admit it- I have been using bluetak!! :))
Thanks to your comments I might not bother now- don't fancy a burst eardrum :))

Have you tried cotton wool? Cheap, effective, safe, renewable daily, and hygienic. Blue tack is chewing gum's first cousin and sticks like the proverbial.....

its not often that i get to laugh at someones questions.......its just the image of you picking up a pack of blue tack and thinking mmm i wonder if...?
as for it causing your eardrums to burst etc....load of bollocks youd have to have a defect already either that or bake it into a hard javelin shape and ram into your ears....just think about it how many kids put toys/food/pencils etc into their ears without causing so much damage, i actually think if you had a large amount molded to cap the ear hole on the outer edge then blue tac might work....another point is someone said if a piece fell off....lets just think about blue TACK function!...but honestly go and get a pair of earplugs

Oh my goodness, if a piece gets loose and goes into your eardrum then you are in big trouble!
I use silicon ear plugs. I buy them in New York in Duane thingy (the big branch) - in UK you can get them online

not a good idea dude. shouldn't damage your hearing but if a small piece came off and got lodged then that would for sure... go to the chemist, you can buy really good ear plugs dirt cheap...

You would be better off using over the ear hearing protection.

Its not particularly dangerous to your ears since blu-tak tends to stick better to itself than anything else on short timescales, and thus generally stays together.... but I wouldn't want to use the blu-tak to stick anything else on the walls again. Ear wax is nasty stuff.
