I read somewhere that hair grows around six inches per year... That's about half an inch each month...
In a year, it probably won't reach shoulder-length, but you can make short hair look pretty when you have enough of it...
Other than hair's natural speed of growth, I suppose the suggestions you've been given will help... Just telling you what I've read about hair left untouched and giving you a realistic expectation.
However, if your hair does grow down to your shoulders... You've got some good luck in lieu of the bad with the perm and all. =)

Here are 10 tips for to keep your hair strong, smooth, shiny and beautiful!

1. Keep your diet balanced, and eat protein and calcium rich foods. Stay away from junk foods! This is essential for healthy hair.

2. Foods and supplements to nourish your hair:

* Beans
* Yogurt
* Almonds
* Vitamin B
* Fish
* And of course, the magic potion for beauty - WATER

3. Before washing your hair, comb it well to make sure all knots has been loosened from your hair.

4. Before applying shampoo, use warm water (35 to 38 degrees Celsius) to run through your hair to rinse and wet it thoroughly.

5. When applying shampoo or conditioner, don't use your fingernails to scrape through your hair. Instead, use your palm and fingertips to massage your scalp and hair gently, in circular motions. This will help the circulation and also help to keep your hair shiny and smooth.

6. After rinsing away all the shampoo, run water over your hair for at least another half a minute (3 minutes is best) to ensure there are no remains of shampoo remaining in your hair, since this will cause a great deal of damage to your scalp.

7. When applying hair treatment products, do so just after you have washed your hair, so that your hair can absorb all the good stuff while it is half wet. This will be the best time for it to absorb nourishment.

8. NEVER go to bed with your hair wet! Hair that is half wet is most easily broken, and if you sleep during this time, your hair will be rubbing against each other, damaging your hair in the most terrible way.

9. Too much pressure may lead to hair loss! Relax... try some good relaxation methods such as soaking in a nice scented bath, listening to music, and eating healthy comfort foods such as strawberries and grapes.

10. Perming and coloring seriously damages your hair. Avoid it as much as possible. Also, when using hair setting products such as gel or putty, use as little as possible, because they hurt your scalp and hair. Wash them out thoroughly afterwards with a shampoo specially created for removing styling products

Well,
* Try applying a paste of shoe flower and leaves,this helps grow your hair and make it appear blacker.
* Try applying milk or curd(at least a day old) on your hair, this will help to keep it silky and shiny.
* Eat well, this is neccessary for the hair to grow.
* Apply oil every second day.... Apply it in the night before dinner and wash it off the next day morning.

Vitamin B is wonderful for hair and nails. If you look at the hair and nail growth products on the market, so many of them contain Vitamin B. I take them, and sometimes I think my hair grows TOO fast! Try it. A good Vitamin B-complex supplement (it doesn't have to be expensive) would help hair, skin, and nails, and you can pick it up at any pharmacy.

Good healthy diet

I've heard that Biotin is a good supplement for hair growth, but I've not tried it. For myself, I find that there is no substitute for a healthy diet based on whole, natural foods. If you are eating nothing but junk, no supplement will bring you the healthy state needed for maximum hair growth and health of the hair. Stay away from fast food, processed foods and sugary things; eat lots of whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables, beans, small amounts of lean meat. Drink lots of fresh water. If your hair (and skin) is a bit dry, try adding a bit of olive oil to your cooking or taking flax seed oil. You will see a difference!

I have been taking hair supplements for the past 3 years and here is what I have found.
GNC makes a tablet called "Ultra Nourishair" in formulas for men and women, the pills are taken daily, 2 pills a day. They are HUGE and very hard to swallow, if you have any trouble at all with large tablets, then I wouldn't recommend these. The 2 pills also contain only 1200 micrograms total of Biotin, which is the main supplement needed for hair to grow faster and stronger. You should try to get a minimum of 2500 micrograms of Biotin daily to improve hair's rate of growth and its condition.
ProCaps labs makes a great supplement called "Hair Skin and Nails" formula, here is the link for that
http://www.procapslabs.com/pcl/pages/pro...
This is in capsule form and much easier to swallow. This company, ProCaps labs is also extremely reputable and carries pure and effective products.
I took GNC's Nourishair for four months, and supplemented it with extra Biotin tablets daily due to its low Biotin content. I took 2500 micrograms extra Biotin with the GNC pills.
The Procaps hair vites have 2500 micrograms of Biotin in them, and don't really require extra Biotin be taken, but I do take an additional 2500 micrograms of Biotin for a daily total of 5000 micrograms of Biotin.
My hair is growing in thick and dark and quite quickly. My hair used to be very slow growing, but all of these supplements have really made a difference.
The only way to really change the health of your hair is by taking supplements that work internally on the follicle where hair is made, any shampoos or oils or other topically applied things do nothing to change hair's structure, that can only happen with systemically provided support, which means supplements that you take internally.......

I use baby shampoo all the time and my hair is thick as hell and kinda long but thats because I just cut my hair lol. But on the back of the shampoo...it says it will actually make your hair longer and thicker at the same time in a fast time. It usually thickens and longens after you wash it. You can get baby shampoo anywhere.

Hair loss affects both men and women. Here are some natural remedies that can help boost hair growth: https://bitly.im/aL9Tr While genetics plays a role, there are other factors, including: hormonal imbalances, an underactive thyroid gland, nutrient deficiencies and insufficient scalp circulation.

comb hair in a very gentle not harsh and rapid manner.. imagine your hair as strands of gold not stock of hay to rake..

the most important of all... is inside, have a supplement of the following,, Vitamin E at least 400mg, Vitamin C 500mg at least, Vit. D and Calcium... E and C are most basic of all.

I had the same issue. ..My hair never grew. So what you should do is first find the right person to cut your hair. Right now I have this lady cutting my hair and its growing a lot faster. Find a person with good hands to cut your hair and trim it at least once every two months.
