I had braces as a teenager for two years, every time they were tightend which was every 6 weeks they murdered. Try bonjella or other teething gel and paracetamol. While they are sore try to avoid the cold, wrap a scarf round your mouth in the wind to help keep the cold air out as the cold makes them ache more. the aching only lasts a few days each time you have them tightend. Dont worry its all worth it at the end when you have a stunning smile.

Take pain relievers as directed. You will feel better in a few days. The initial adjustment period is the hardest part. Eating will be very difficult but you will adjust. I always liked cold, soft foods when I had a lot of pain (yogurt and ice cream). Soup is fine too, but try to avoid anything with rice at first. Rice will get stuck everywhere in your braces. Be patient - I assure you, you will feel better. It won't be long and you'll be able to eat a lot of different foods. If you have any sore spots in your mouth, use the wax on your brackets - it helps. Keep your braces clean and always use the threaders to floss. Take care and good luck.

I had to wear full braces when I was 14. I know what you are going through. I had some kind of wax that I put on the braces that rubbed against my inner lips. They hurt for about a week after I first got them then it got better.

The time period is different for everyone. I had mine on for 9 months...

Have something soft ready to eat for about 3 days after you get your braces tightened. Soup was great for me!

Make sure you brush your teeth after each meal. You'll feel a lot better for it!

Wow, this is really good. I love the idea of the blackened. I think the idea of this girl only seeing a boy in her future is a bit off, and needs to be revised, but the way that the story plays out is great minus that. I'd like to read an excerpt of the the boy training, the girl seeing her future or training to, and her crying on the floor. P.S (First nice thing I've written today on YA. Congrats.) :D

the will hurt for at least the next 2-3 days. Everytime you go in for your check up and get them adjusted, they will hurt for about 2-3 days. Don't worry, you'll get used to it

Drink your food, lots of new ways nowadays. Smoothies, yogurts, soft foods help. Don't have them tighten to the point that they hurt to bad, it defect the purpose.

it will go away after a while until you get them tightened, it's all worth it for the beautiful teeth you will have after getting them off though because this will only last a year or so but you will have pretty teeth for the rest of your life
