When she and her boyfriend have sex, she cries out so loudly that it sounds like he's beating her up or something. (I know because I actually went to check if she was being hurt.)
It's not even moaning... it's like being loud for the sake of being loud, i.e. faking it. It is very annoying. If it was at least truly sexual, it could be stimulating, but this is just a turnoff. How do I tell someone to stop sounding like they're faking it because the whole building could hear it?

You must live on the other side of me. My neighbors do the same thing. We fixed it very effectively. Once when they were going at it, I had a bunch of friends over. We snuck outside and hid under their window, and when she started screaming we screamed back in unisone. Moan for moan, pant for pant, "oh God" for "oh God" and every "f-me" for "f-me". Eventually she just started cursing us out and he came to the window, looked for us, then slammed it.

Never heard them again.

I wouldn't necessarily assume that she's faking it. That could very well be just how she sounds. But if it's loud enough, then it could constitute a noise violation.

Also, I would not tape it. At least not yet.

When you talk to her, knowing that someone else can hear will be embarrassing enough. But playing the evidence, is a mortification that you don't need to embark on at this time.

So just ask her to quiet down if that is possible. If she doesn't, then talk to the landlord. If that doesn't help, then ask the police what the correct course of action would be. Only at the direction of the police would I tape record the noise violation.

Best of luck.

If she is being that loud during sex then she must be trying to annoy everyone or the walls in your building are very very thin. Either way her sex life should not interfere with your home life or anyone else. There is such a thing as a noise ordinance law. Check with the local police dept and see what is and what time it comes into affect.

Then I would agree to tape record the noise but do it from the loudest point of contact from your space. Then when you have all your ducks in a row go and have a girl to girl chat with her.

Invite her over for coffee or a cold beverage. Explain to her how your feeling on the subject at hand. Play the tape for her and ask her to please be considerate of her neighbors namely you.

If she does not want to take care of this so you both can leave peaceable next to each other then take you complaint to the police and let them handle it along with the tape.

I had neighbors like that once. I worked at night and on Saturday while I slept they would have sex in the apartment below me at 10am sharp, with the man screaming and this would wake me up. I waited one day until it sounded like the peak was near and I beat on the floor with a broom handle really loudly. They stopped being so loud after that.

The man sounded like a jack-ass.

It's possible that her sex-life has been less-than-exciting, or this is the first person to have sex with her, and she wants everyone to know. Tell her that you hear her, and that you are bothered by it. If she doesn't care, then talk to the Landlord. Kudos on the idea to turn the radio up when she goes at it. That may do the trick.

I had this same problem. I used to bring my stereo up to my room and blare it as loud as it would go right next to the wall where they were. When they were done, I would shut the music off. After she realized I heard her every time and obviously was disgusted by it, I think she began to get embarrased and stopped. Good Luck. I also think the person who suggested taping it and playing it back for her was right on!

Call her during the act next time. If she answers ask if she needs help, because it sounds like she is in a great deal of pain. If she doesn't answer, keep calling until she does.

Why don't you try calling 911 next time it happens and tell them a beating is taking place.

Maybe if the cops showed up at her door, she'd keep it real from then on ....

Just tell her. She probably doesn't realize that other people can hear her. i'm very loud myself, and I'm not faking it, trust me.

You don't have to tell her: "When you're having sex, everybody can hear you". Just tell her that the walls seem pretty thin, and that sometimes, at night, you can hear weird noises... If she ignores it, just be blunt.
