An old man on TV was just gibbering on about "making love to the sound of shrapnel pinging off trees". Are there any other war veterans out there who will be remembering moments like this on Sunday?

1. Shrapnel does not ping off trees it embeds itself, just as he was alledgedly doing. I have heard and read about many exploits during the war, some true some blatantly untrue, it helps to pass the time and i love hearing them and never discourage or disrespect anyone who has lived through the war,my father was one such storyteller from his exploits he battled hitler single handedly, he once told me he was in Andy Clydes Commados it was years later when i learned that it was the army catering corps, what he didnt tell me that he was also in a highland regiment, that fought many battles and was a seargeant major and had been awarded twenty two medals several for courage displayed in battle, so i never thought about that because those memories he held in ,preffering to lighten his stories of daring rather than relive them, LF

I can not remember anything about W.W.1 or W.W.2 as I was not born then.Neither was I told any stories because the men from our family who returned from war, refused ever to talk about their experiences.I know that two died fighting for their country, the older people in the family are so very proud of of them for `doing their duty to King and country`. I just sit silently and think that their deaths were such an unnecessary waste, because we learned absolutely nothing from the wars that caused so much death.

Remembrance Sunday is not just about WW1 & WW11 its about all those who have fallen in battle. I have always paided my respects to people who have fought for this country. I will be remembering people who lost there lives in Iraq and most recently Afgahnistan.
