How do you know if a girl is cutting herself because of her appearance? Or how do you tell if a girl is cutting herself BY her appearance?

Either way, if she is, it's a personal thing. Some people do it for attention, others because of a mental problem, others just for something to do. If you want to know why she is doing it, ask her. Go from there.

Its really hard to know if there doing it. Unless you've seen it and they have scars up and down usually in places people can't see.

people usually cut themselves because they have had some childhood trauma, not because of what they look like. they may think it is because of what they look like but that is because they blame themselves for what happened to them in the past. they do need help but not medical help they need long term counselling to help them deal with the past.
