First, if you have any damage or split ends cut them off. That is the only way to rid hair off split ends. Second, start a hair regimine that will provide hair with rest and TLC. That means limiting heat styling, brush/comb gentally, and using good products. To style hair try rollers, loose ponytail/braids, etc. And then use a good shampoo and deep conditon everytime you wash your hair.
Shampoo:
-Herbal Essence's Hello Hydration
-Burt's Bee's Shampoo Bar ( Best Choice adds alot of moisture)
-For quick conditoning buy Burt's Bees Conditoner as well, choose anyone you want. If you wash your hair more than once a week.
Recipes for Conditoning Treatments: Do at least once a week
Avacado Treatment:
1peeled and mashed Avocado
1 cup Coconut milk
Combine mashed avocado with some coconut milk in a small bowl. Heat in microwave for approx. 45 seconds. Stir. Test tempiture. Massage mixture into hair.Wrap hair in a hot towel or cover with shower cap for 15 minutes. Shampoo & rinse out.
Hot Oil Treatment:
/2 cup Olive oil or Jojoba Oil
1/2 cup boiling water
Combine ingredients then warm on low heat. Massage mixture into the scalp and hair. Wrap hair in a hot towel for 15 minutes. Shampoo & rinse out.
Also go to a place like Holiday Hair, or other inexpensive hair salon chains to get bi-weekly hair treatments, and care. It is cheap, and will help improve hair health over time.

Use the hot oil treatment. Heat up an ammount of olive oil according to your hair thickness. Apply on you hair and scalp and massage it well. Try to cover every strand. Keep it on for an hour or 2 and rinse. This works super well. Your hair will be smooth and soft. Do this every other day. Also use a good conditioner after shampooing your hair.
GOOD LUCK!

Use a rich and nutritious hair mask that you will make at home. Oil does miracles!
Mix 5 tablespoons of olive oil with 2 eggs and apply throughly to your hair. Then wrap your head with a shower cap. Leave for 15 minutes and rinse well.
Piece of cake and it works!

Diet can be an issue. I have pretty dry hair, but conditioners work for me... there are special ones at the salons/sally beauty.
Anyway, try drinking lots of water. The winter season can also be a cause, try a spray-on, leave-in conditioner. Avoid dye, perms, heat, etc.

You might want to invest in some kind of treatment at a salon. They could help restore your hair and it will get softer.

Natural hair is the best .Never try to change them. But you use coconut oil and keep it for 1-2 hrs.

Don't do the lemon juice thing. Bad idea as it will dry out from the sun.
Get a hot oil treatment from VO5. It really works wonders!!
