I want to purchase a digital camera and I am looking to purchase Sony DSC S500. The specifications of the camera are 2.4” LCD screen, 3X Optical Zoom, 6X Digital Zoom and 6 mega pixels picture quality. I am also looking to get 1GB Memory card. All this is going to cost me $282. Should I purchase it as the use is just domestic? Just to take family photos and not the professional ones. Thank you

I would say this is the perfect camera for what you want. Six mega pixels will give you nice clear pictures that you zoom in on and clean up or crop once on your computer. Any type of optical zoom is also nice for when you take trips and want to take pictures of the scenery. Plus with the one gigabite card you could set your pictures to the highest quality and still have plent of room for pictures. Looks like a good choice to me.

I like the sound of this camera. but test it out at the store first! and if you are going to take many pictures from a far distance and you want to zoom in than get one with a better optical zoom!

I have this camera and love it. It is very easy to operate and takes very good pictures. I ordered mine off of sonystyle.com and got a good deal. Right now for what you are looking at(including the memory card) it is $199.94 and shipping is free until Monday the 13th. There may be tax but it should be cheaper than where you are looking. Anyways, I would definitely purchase this camera it is well worth the money.

You could go with a less expensive one and it would be fine. With the extra pixels you could blow up good photos and frame them though. Other than that, You could do fine with a camera around $150. But the one you like is nice too.
