Its the 3 year old stage...
my 3 year old is an only child & I am a stay at home mom & he does a few of those things (stick tongue out, etc).. only in the end my son is a mommy's boy (I'm a stay at home mom)

he probably is jealous, I know my son acts up a good bit if I have to leave him with someone a few days in a row, after a few days of mommy time he is usually good & back to his old self

Well this is partly his age. At age three kids really start to understand that they are separate beings from Mom and Dad. However that behavior should not be allowed because it erodes Mom ability to discipline. The only thing she can do is to firmly tell him to stop doing it. If he doesnt put him in the time out chair(if you dont have one yet might as well establish one)the usual amount of time is one minute for each year of childs life. Does he actually do what is asked of him even if he does stick out is tongue? Some kids just seem to have to misbehave but still do what is asked. But I think that ignoring it isn't a good idea.

Well many factors could cause this behavior.....Does he go to day-care? He might be copying what he has seen from other children... Mommy is having a baby... He senses change and is thinking the attention from him will change. The middle child sometimes feels they need to fight for the attention. Think back when this started.... I am a mother of 4 with a 3 yr. old daughter I see this behavior in her sometimes. Mommy gets pulled in so many directions and children sense stress. Mom has to be stressed with all she does and a new arrival on the way. And also STAGES... Children go through them... I have to call my girlfriend and ask if my kids are normal. Her having same aged children amazingly she comforts me and says her kids are doing the same thing. Dad & Mom you aren't alone....Congrats & God Bless!

Sounds to me like he is not getting enough attention from Mom and he is jealous of all the attention the other sibling and the now soon to be sibling are getting. My five year old went through a phase where he told me he didn't love me and all kinds of nasties. I started doing special with just him like taking him to the park or taking just him when I went to the store. Even allowing him to sleep one night a week in bed with me which is something I was not very keen on. He now treats me with the same respect he gives my Husband but he is still definitely a "Daddy's Boy!!!"

time out works......put him in the corner with his nose against the wall on his knees.......he will cry and shout, but after one or two times of this, he will behave just with threatining the "corner"
