If you do not want to place pictures on the walls, you can concentrate your decorating to the mantle itself and the area surrounding the fireplace opening.

Look around the room at some of your favorite accent colors and accent pieces. You can pull vases, candles, candle holders and even momentos from favorite trips or occasions to place on the mantle.

There are some striking taller vases available which you can fill with purchased dried flowers echoing your color schemes, and you can even use natural materials taken from your own property, if you are able to do so. Think branches, pine cones, dried grasses, actual colored leaves from seasonal changes, seed pods from various plants, cat o nine tails, and other similar objects from your area.

Don't be afraid to use objects that you already own, that are favorites in a new way. I have seen some great looking arrangements consisting of modern items mixed with children's toys from the distant past.

It's amazing how a beautiful small dessert dish can take on a new life on a mantel filled with colored stones from a favorite beach, coins of other countries, sea glass, corks saved from favorite bottles of wine...let your imagination be your guide.

You can choose objects that tie into your life, your work and your dreams and possibilities of the future. Decoration should be a reflection of your life, and should make you happy and comfortable in your space.

If you do not use, or will not use the fireplace to heat your home, I have seen great arrangements of various types of candle holders and candles inside the firebox itself. There are actual holders made for these openings, but if you have a collection of candles and candle holders, you can come up with your own arrangement. Always remember that everyone, and everything looks great in candlelight....

I have found it helpful to watch some of the decorating shows and look at magazines and even advertising flyers from any of the major department stores for ideas. Look at displays in stores when you are shopping, as stores employ merchandising managers who actually plan displays to be eyecatching and encourage the customers to buy more items. Good luck, and have a good day!

Hey guy, I know where you found to decorate a corner fireplace mantel. The fireplace of your home will have to be constructed as per the local building codes. It is an area where a family can sit and get warmth during the cold weather. The decorating tip is to place sculptures and ceramics on the space over the mantel. The stone needs to be softened up. Don't know how you'd do it but about two or three feet above the mantle, you could position a pretty lace scarf with fringe on it on the fireplace chimney. Using an artistic, whimsical swag design to the scarf. (You might need a ladder) And something to affix the scarf to the stone. (Sticky "clay") The candles on the mantle would be pretty, however, the fire in the fireplace will give off a lot of light. I love to see the mantle filled with family photos. If the idea of the lacy scarf on the f/p chimney doesn't appeal to you then how about a big wreath? The fringed scarf could go on the mantle with all the pics. The ruggedness of the stone does need to be softened up.
